The Museum at school: tot aigua (all about water)

A series of simple activities on the Tot Aigua topic are carried out, worked around a mural with a symbolic island surrounded by the sea. The watercycle, the animals and plants that live there, experiments with fresh and salt water, the use man makes of it, weather phenomena and popular culture are some of the contents that pupils will cover with the activities of this topic.

  • What we offer:
    A teachers’ book, tool kit, poster, worksheets, glossary, tutor who will travel to the school to introduce the workshop and bring it to a close.
  • who should we address ourselves to? :
    Infants’ Education and 1st Cycle of Primary
  • Observations:
    The activity must be arranged a minimum of one month in advance. The school may have the material for a maximum of 15 days.
 

Insectarium

Through a series of games and activities where the students will use their senses, their curiosity will be aroused to want to get to know more about the world of insects. What is an insect ? How does it feed ? How does it move ? What sounds do they make ? These are some of the questions that will be resolved with this interesting workshop and the educational booklet that is given to teachers.

    Workshop led by a tutor in the nature classroom and the Museum facilities.
    Educational material to carry out the workshop.

    Duration: 1 hour 30 mins.

The world of mushrooms

Activity aimed at the youngest students to introduce them to this fascinating world of mushrooms by playing constructive games.

 

  • What we offer:
    A mural for support.
    Great game with different stages and tests.
    Tutor / animator.
  • who should we address ourselves to? :
    Infants’ Education, 1st and 2nd Cycle Primary Education.
  • Observations:
    Activity planned for the autumn and winter months, with the possibility of being carried out the whole year round.
    Duration: 2 hours.
  • Group:
    Maximum 20 students per visit.
 

Neither animal nor vegetable: the mushroom

Is a mushroom the same as a fungus? How does a fungus resemble an insect? Does the life of a pine tree depend on a fungus? Getting to know the role that fungus plays within ecosystems translates into a greater awareness of the conservation of the natural environment and popular culture.

    Diversity and names of our mushrooms (PowerPoint).
    Workshop on the classification of mushrooms in the nature classroom.

    3rd Cycle of Primary Education, ESO and Higher Secondary Education.
  • Observations:
    Activities planned for the autumn and winter months.
    Duration: 2 hours.

The rocks speak

Is an excrement from 100 million years ago a fossil? Which are the oldest rocks in Majorca? What is an ichnite? Was the Nothosaurus a dinosaur? Through a completely revamped workshop, pupils will observe, touch and experiment with all their senses and enter the fascinating world of palaeontology.

    Visit to the palaeontology exhibition at the Museum.

    3rd Cycle Primary Education, ESO and Higher Secondary Education.
  • Observations:
    Duration: 2 hours.

Guided tour of the Museu de Ciències Naturals

How and when did the Balearic Islands come into being? Why have there never been remains of dinosaurs found in the Balearics? What secrets can be revealed by observing simple grains of sand? Which major researchers have studied our nature? What collections are housed at the Museum? These questions and many others will be answered with the visit to a Museum and its permanent and temporary exhibitions.

    Visit to the museum under the guidance of a tutor.

Foraminiferas, a world in a handful of sand

The aim of this workshop is to bring the world of the foraminiferas and micropalaeontology closer to students with the introduction of marine biology concepts and the analysis of the vital role posidonia meadows play in our marine ecosystems.

    3rd Cycle of Primary Education, ESO and Higher Secondary Education.
  • Observations:
    Length of activity: 1 hour 30 mins.

Myotragus balearicus

By means of a dynamic workshop students will discover the events that took place in the Balearics during and after the Messinian Salinity Crisis, 5.7 million years ago. What were the Islands like then and what new protagonists arrived there? How did the Myotragus balearicus evolve and why? What were the Gymnesian Islands? Can flora and fauna that existed millions of years ago still be found here? Did the landscape change when humans arrived? These topics and lots more will be worked on in this workshop.

    Workshop led by a tutor in the nature classroom.
    Visit to the exhibitions “History of Natural Sciences on the Balearic Islands” and “Fossils, a view of the past” at the Museum.

    2nd and 3rd Cycle of Primary Education and ESO.
  • Observations:
    Length of activity: 1 hour 30 mins.
  • Group:
    Maximum 20 students per visit
 

The Museum at school: ants

How do they live? What do they eat? How do they reproduce? How are they structured within their colony? And a whole host more of questions will be answered by the students through the activities in the kit dedicated to the world of ants.

 

  • What we offer:
    A folder for students and a folder for teaching staff.
    Tool kit with material to study the world of ants.
    Worksheets.

Be a palaeontologist!

Workshop aimed at students of primary education to introduce them to the world of palaeontology. Through the direct observation of some of the most characteristic fossils of the Balearics and with different games and workshops, pupils will be acting as authentic palaeontologists.
